Labyrinth 2 - Return Of The Goblin King: Who Will Play the Iconic Role of Jareth?

A disturbed teenage girl. A baby-snatching goblin king with a distractingly prominent codpiece. A supporting cast of creature features ranging from bizarre to frankly terrifying. Every scene of Jim Henson's Labyrinth is burned into the memories of a generation of movie viewers.

Labyrinth was directed by Jim Henson of the Muppet and The Dark Crystal fame. It was produced by George Lucas and featured David Bowie as the villain Goblin King. It's also one of Jennifer Connelly's first films. And it just might be the best live-action Alice in Wonderland film ever made.Sarah (Connelly) is a proud cloudcuckoolander, someone whose head is permanently stuck in the clouds and who can very easily lose entire days playing make-belief in the parks. And then she's given the unenviable task of looking after her baby brother while her parents go out on a date. And of course the kid gets kidnapped by goblins within fifteen minutes. Top notch job there, Sarah. To Sarah's credit, she's obviously distraught by this and does everything she can to get her brother back. Nevertheless, her character is a bit tough to get behind most of the time. You can see that her heart is in the right place, but otherwise she's a brat. Not helping the matter is Connelly's acting. It's atrocious, especially in the early scenes. As the movie progresses, she does get better, but she's not going to be winning any Oscars anytime soon. (Which is ironic because fifteen years later she did just that with her role in A Beautiful Mind.)But, putting that aside, the film is otherwise a whole lot of fun. David Bowie is an absolute blast, although the songs he's given to sing could have been better. Jim Henson's puppet work is also on full display and is easily the best part of the film. Furthermore, the story has that mad, no logic whatsoever dream quality to it, which makes it enjoyable to watch, and the characters aside from Sarah are very enjoyable. Not the best film ever made and I'd personally rather watch The Dark Crystal again, but if you've liked Henson's other films, this one is worth a watch.

Sarah Williams (Jennifer Connelly) is left home alone by her parents to babysit her little brother Toby. She can't stand her stepmother and she hates her crying baby brother. She makes a wish to the Goblin King (David Bowie) to take Toby away. "I wish the goblins would come and take you away right now." She begs for Toby's return. The Goblin King transport her to the Labyrinth. If she solves the Labyrinth in 13 hours, he will return Toby or else Toby will be turned into a goblin forever. At the entrance of the Labyrinth, she meets grumpy dwarf Hoggle who kills faeries.Jennifer Connelly is lovely and she calls Hoggle Hogwart. Jim Henson brings his various puppets and visual styles to work in an imaginative and sometimes dark creation. It is a fun adventure with some light charm and also a good coming-of-age story.

During Christmas 1955, a young Hellboy is told a bedtime story by his adoptive father, Trevor Bruttenholm, of an ancient war between human and magical creatures. After the magical creatures are driven back by the humans, the goblin blacksmiths extend an offer to Balor, king of the elves, to build him an indestructible mechanical army. Encouraged by his son Prince Nuada, Balor accepts; the Golden Army subsequently decimates humanity. Regretting his actions, Balor forms a truce with the humans, that they will keep to the cities and the magical creatures to the forests. The crown to command the Golden Army, which can only be worn by one of royal blood, is split into three pieces. Nuada, disagreeing with the truce, leaves in exile.

Nuada tracks his sister to the B. P.R. D. headquarters using their magical bond, which causes them to share wounds and read each other's thoughts. Nuala hides the final crown piece before Nuada finds her, and he battles Hellboy. Nuada critically wounds Hellboy with his spear and abducts Nuala, promising her return in exchange for the crown piece. Unable to remove the spear shard in his wound, Liz, Abe, and Krauss take Hellboy to the Golden Army's location in the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland. They encounter the Bethmoora goblin master blacksmith who brings them before the Angel of Death to retrieve the spear shard. Though warned Hellboy will doom humanity if he lives, and that she will suffer the most from it, Liz pleads for Hellboy's life. The Angel removes the shard from Hellboy's chest and tells Liz to give him a reason to live. She reveals to Hellboy that he will be a father, and he recovers.

In May 2004, the sequel to Hellboy entered development at Revolution Studios with the first film's writer-director Guillermo del Toro returning with producers Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson, and Lloyd Levin. The comic book creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola, was asked to develop a story with del Toro for the sequel, with actor Ron Perlman to reprise the role of Hellboy.[1] The following September, del Toro expressed interest in making Hellboy into a trilogy with Mignola, with the first sequel slated for a 2006 release.[2] 2ff7e9595c
